Psychiatrists Abusing Patients In Turkish Psychiatric Hospitals

Friday, September 30th, 2005

In a description that sounded more like a dungeon torture chamber this article covers the horrific abuse of patients in psychiatric hospitals in Turkey. The story also quoted a report investigating these human rights violations. The report included such comments as:

“Investigators observed children emaciated from starvation,” and “Staff reported children dying from starvation and dehydration.”

Patients are “subjected to treatment practices that are tantamount to torture,”

The group said electric shock therapy were “massively overused in Turkish psychiatric facilities in cases for which there is no clinically proven justification,” and that they were used as a form of punishment.

Electro-Shock Therapy Caused Brain Damage - Psychiatrist Ordered To Pay $635,000 in Damages

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

I recently found this article about a jury that found a psychiatrist liable for causing brain damage to his patient. The patient was referred for intensive electroshock procedures (practitioners prefer to call it, electro-convulsive treatment ECT) that left her permanently damaged. The patient, Peggy S. Salters is a 60 year old former psychiatric nurse. She was subjected to 13 electroshocks over the course of about 2 weeks. The jury found that her loss of 30 years of memory and cognitive impairment–which are demonstrable symptoms of brain damage–was due to ECT. They awarded her over $635,000 in damages. The hospital where the procedure took place had previously settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

In this article about the psychiatry kills museum tells about the frightful history of psychiatry and it’s brutal “treatments”.

Psychiatry was born out of German psychologist Wilhelm Wundt’s “experimental psychology.” He insisted man was but an animal with no soul. From there it only got worse: From torture-like restraint devices, to horrific brain surgeries like the lobotomy and electric shock treatments, psychiatry has a brutal history of doing nothing but harm to it’s patients

FDA OKs Electric Shock Brain Implant

Friday, July 15th, 2005

In an insane move today the FDA has officially approved a device that is surgically implanted into a patients body to treat depression. This approval comes despite extreme controversy over whether it’s even been proven to work.

The VNS (Vagus Nerve Stimulator) is implanted into the chest. Wires then snake up the neck to the vagus nerve The device then delivers an electric shock to the Vagus nerve which in turn sends the electric shock to the base of the brain.

The craziest part about the FDA’s approval is that the device itself hasn’t even conclusively been proven to work!

In this barbaric psychiatric treatment children are removed from their homes for roughly two weeks and then are subjected to psychiatric drugs and regular electric shock treatments.

In an almost unbelievable news article exposing this new psychiatric treatment show that they take children who use the Internet too much or play too many video games and electric shock them. Then give them mind altering drugs to “adjust the unbalanced status of brain secretions”.

Psychiatric Electric Shock Implant

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

The Washington Times reports that the FDA may actually approve this psychiatric electric shock implant device even though it has been shown to be a failure. The times reports that the same amount of people seem to recover from their depression whether or not the device was even turned on!

However, many experts have contended that there is very little evidence that the $15,000 device is effective in treating depression, the Times said.
