Don’t Betray The Katrina Hurricane Victims

In a time of loss and destruction some people will try to take advantage of the weak and needy. The hurricane Katrina victims are about to find this out first hand. I have been recently seeing media reports that psychiatry and the big drug companies are gearing up to dish out millions of dollars of “free” psychiatric care and harmful psychiatric drugs to help “treat” the victims. Ultimately what the victims will discover once hooked on these powerful mind altering drugs is that the side effects (like suicide and psychosis) are awful and withdrawal from them is almost impossible.

It is shameful that these people are going to be told that they need the “help” of antidepressants and instead be tricked into becoming legalized drug users with psychiatrists and big drug companies becoming their drug dealers. Just a sample from the list of side effects quoted directly from the official Prozac.com website are:

“worsening depression symptoms, unusual changes in behavior and thoughts of suicide, as well as for anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, difficulty sleeping, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, impulsivity, restlessness, or extreme hyperactivity. Call the doctor if you have thoughts of suicide or if any of these symptoms are severe or occur suddenly.”

Also listed on both the Prozac site and on another natural medical site are these side effects:

“amnesia, apathy, hallucinations, hostility, involuntary movement, irrational ideas, paranoid reaction, twitching, uncoordinated movements, temporary cessation of breathing, urinary disorders, vague feeling of bodily discomfort, vertigo, vision disturbances, vomiting, weight gain, nausea, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness, anxiety, nervousness, weakness, loss of appetite, tremors, dry mouth, sweating, decreased sex drive, impotence, or yawning”

If you or anyone you know has been displaced or harmed by Katrina, please make sure that psychiatry doesn’t victimize them next.

Here’s what is listed on About.com as the withdrawal effects from antidepressants once you try to stop taking them:

“you begin to exhibit severe flulike symptoms - headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, chills, dizziness and fatigue. There may be insomnia. Agitation, impaired concentration, vivid dreams, depersonalization, irritability and suicidal thoughts are sometimes occurring. These symptoms last anywhere from one to seven weeks and vary in intensity. You wonder what the heck is going on. It’s called SSRI discontinuation syndrome, and it can really be the pits. ”
